Imphal, Jan 13: Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, is set to commence from a private ground in Manipur’s Thoubal district on January 14, as confirmed by the Congress.

Originally planned for the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal, permission was sought but granted with conditions, prompting a last-minute change in the venue, approximately 34 km away.

Keisham Meghachandra, Manipur’s Congress president, revealed that the state government initially refused permission for the Hapta Kangjeibung ground, citing limited participants.

Despite discussions with Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, the desired clearance was not obtained. Subsequently, Thoubal DC approved for the Yatra to be flagged off from private land in Khongjom area, ensuring the event’s continuity.

Meghachandra emphasized that although the venue changed, the Yatra’s route remains unaltered. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to inaugurate the Yatra from the revised location.

The Yatra, spanning 6,713 km over 67 days and covering 110 districts in 15 states, will kick off in Manipur on January 14 and conclude in Mumbai on March 20.
