Bicycle Assam

Guwahati, Sept 21: The Juria Bagariguri Madrassa Higher Secondary School in Assam has taken on an unexpected role as a bicycle manufacturing hub, leading to criticism of the education department for its handling of over three thousand bicycles intended for Class 9 students.

These bicycles have been left exposed to the elements for over a month, raising questions about accountability in the education system. Similar allocations of bicycles have been made to other schools in the district as well.

For the academic year 2023-24, the government allocated these bicycles specifically for Class 9 students. Unfortunately, most of these bicycles have deteriorated significantly due to exposure to sun and rain. The school premises have effectively turned into a makeshift bicycle assembly line, with the bikes waiting for their intended recipients.

The principal of Juria Bagariguri Madrassa Higher Secondary School expressed deep concern about the situation, saying, “As per government orders, there are around 2500 bicycles meant for boys and girls in Class 9. These bicycles have been assembled in our school for the past three months but have not yet been distributed. We anticipate that they will be distributed to the students soon, as per the government’s directives. The delay in distribution has been causing inconvenience to the students. Given the large number of bicycles assembled here, a quick distribution by the government would greatly benefit us.”

This situation highlights the need for better planning and execution in the allocation and distribution of resources, especially those meant for students.

The irresponsible handling of these bicycles not only reflects poorly on the education department but also negatively impacts the students who were supposed to benefit from them. It is imperative that corrective measures are taken promptly to rectify this situation and ensure that students receive the bicycles they were promised.
