Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates touched down in the capital of Odisha on Tuesday night, gearing up for a series of engagements slated for Wednesday.

Among his itinerary is a pivotal event highlighting the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture, aimed at benefiting farmers across the region.

In addition to his scheduled meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Gates is set to participate in various programs linked to Odisha’s initiatives such as the ‘Jaga Mission’ aimed at the development of slums, the ‘Mukta’ scheme focused on creating localized employment opportunities for the urban poor, and ‘Mission Shakti’.

Officials highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the Odisha government’s Department of Agriculture & Farmer Empowerment and the Fisheries and Animal Resource Department with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation since 2017.

This partnership has been instrumental in fostering innovation in data-driven decision-making processes, particularly in the agricultural sector, aimed at empowering farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity.
