Kolkata, Feb 19: The West Bengal BJP intensified its criticism of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the Sandeshkhali issue, alleging that “TMC-linked goons” were targeting Hindu women and subjecting them to sexual assault.

During a press conference, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed that women who had accused local TMC leaders of sexual assault were facing further victimization, with their homes being looted after they spoke to the media.

Chatterjee criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her silence on the matter, highlighting the continued absence of Shahjahan Sheikh, a key accused in the case.

She also accused the police of failing to take action, suggesting that the law enforcement agencies were under the control of the TMC.

The BJP MP expressed concern over the safety of the women involved, noting that they had chosen to conceal their identities during media interviews out of fear of reprisals.

She alleged that individuals posing as police officers were involved in the looting of the victims’ residences.

Chatterjee’s statements underscored the BJP’s stance on the issue, portraying it as a matter of law and order failure and political interference by the ruling TMC in West Bengal.
