3. Also criticizes comments on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
New Delhi, March 20: The BJP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remarks about “fighting against Shakti” and his comments on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
During a public rally in Mumbai on February 17, Rahul Gandhi stated, “There is a word ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against a Shakti.”
He went on to elaborate, suggesting that the essence of power resides in the EVMs and various governmental institutions like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax department.
Gandhi also alleged that Prime Minister Modi relies on EVMs to win elections.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri took the complaint to the Election Commission’s office in New Delhi, seeking action against Rahul Gandhi.
Puri emphasized the need for accountability, expressing concern that such false claims, if unchecked, could continue unabated.

The BJP’s response to Gandhi’s comments was swift and forceful, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself criticizing the remarks.
PM Modi, addressing multiple election rallies, countered Gandhi’s assertions by highlighting the significance of ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism, portraying opposition parties as threatening its sanctity.
In response to the criticism, Rahul Gandhi attempted to clarify his statements, accusing the Prime Minister of distorting his words.
He argued that by ‘Shakti,’ he was referring to the power of the state, not any divine entity.
The controversy surrounding Gandhi’s remarks underscores the heightened tensions between the BJP and Congress in the lead-up to the elections.
With both parties vying for public support, such exchanges reflect the intense competition characterizing Indian politics.
