Guwahati, March 20: The Assam government has partnered with Tata to establish a Skill Development Centre in Jagiroad, aiming to empower the youth of the region and enhance their employability prospects.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the initiative, noting that the centre will be located within the premises of the upcoming semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.
The Skill Development Centre will offer courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, aligning with the requirements of the upcoming Tata unit in Jagiroad.

It seeks to equip 1,500 Assamese youths, particularly women, with specialized skills, building a talent pool for leadership positions within the semiconductor industry.
Currently, a batch of Assamese youths is undergoing training at Tata facilities in Bangalore, preparing them for future roles at the Jagiroad unit once operational in 2025.
The establishment of the Tata semiconductor facility, valued at Rs 27,000 crore, is poised to position Assam as a significant player in the global semiconductor market, heralding transformative economic opportunities for East India.

CM Sarma expressed gratitude to Ratan Tata and N. Chandrasekaran for their investment in Assam, acknowledging their contribution to the state’s development.
March 13 marked a historic milestone for Assam as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the virtual foundation for the state’s largest semiconductor unit in Morigaon.
This initiative, expected to attract Rs 27,000 crore in investment and generate employment for 30,000 youth in Assam and neighboring regions, received accolades from CM Sarma.
He credited PM Modi’s visionary ‘Ashta Lakshmi’ initiative and Tata Sons, along with its MD N. Chandrasekaran, for their bold steps in transcending geographical barriers and fostering industrial growth in Assam.
