Guwahati, March 20: Opposition parties in Assam have released a comprehensive 40-page chargesheet against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his government ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The chargesheet encompasses a wide array of allegations, ranging from corruption and mismanagement to failure to address critical issues plaguing the state.

The chargesheet outlines numerous accusations, including a land scam involving the Chief Minister’s family, the alleged receipt of a Rs 10 crore central subsidy by the CM’s wife, and the acquisition of large parcels of land by companies owned by her.

It also highlights the purported grabbing of tribal land and the diversion of indigenous people’s land to private entities.

Additionally, it raises concerns about the failure to mitigate the human-elephant conflict, rising prices, syndicates, illegal immigration, rampant toll taxes, and several other issues.

The document alleges various instances of corruption and mismanagement within the government, such as the Apex bank scam, price rises, increases in fuel prices, syndicates controlling toll gates and cattle smuggling, and failures in addressing environmental concerns like the drying up of the Subansiri river.

Furthermore, it accuses the government of betraying indigenous communities, neglecting infrastructure projects, and favoring select contractors.

While some of these allegations remain unverified or disputed, the opposition maintains that the Chief Minister and his administration have reached the pinnacle of corruption.

They criticize the government’s handling of democratic and human rights issues, claiming that it prioritizes its interests over those of the common people.

The chargesheet also raises concerns about the economic burden placed on citizens, citing skyrocketing fuel prices and a lack of relief measures.

It accuses the government of manipulating voters and disregarding democratic values and the Constitution.

In response to the charges, the Chief Minister and his family have refuted many of the allegations, emphasizing the state’s economic growth under their leadership.

However, the opposition remains steadfast in its stance, calling for accountability and transparency in governance.

Overall, the chargesheet reflects deep-seated concerns about corruption, mismanagement, and the erosion of democratic values under the current administration.

It underscores the need for a thorough investigation and corrective action to address the allegations and restore public trust in the government.
