Agartala, Sept 08: The political landscape in Tripura witnessed a significant shift as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in the September 5 by-polls for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly seats. The results, announced after the counting of votes on Friday, marked a significant win for the saffron party.

In Boxanagar, the BJP’s candidate, Tafajjal Hossain, emerged victorious with a resounding mandate, securing 34,146 votes. He defeated the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) candidate, Mizan Hossain, who managed to secure only 3,909 votes. The margin of victory was a staggering 30,237 votes, underscoring the BJP’s dominance in the constituency.

Meanwhile, in Dhanpur, the BJP’s Bindu Debnath secured 30,017 votes, clinching the victory over CPI(M)’s Kaushik Chanda, who received 11,146 votes. Debnath’s margin of victory stood at 18,871 votes, consolidating the BJP’s hold on the Dhanpur assembly seat.

The bypolls in Boxanagar were necessitated due to the unfortunate demise of the sitting CPI(M) legislator, Samsul Haque. In Dhanpur, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, who had contested the state assembly elections earlier in the year, resigned from her seat shortly after her election, leading to the bypoll.

The contest in both Boxanagar and Dhanpur was a direct face-off between the BJP and the opposition CPI(M), as two other prominent opposition parties, the TIPRA Motha and the Congress, refrained from fielding their candidates in these constituencies.

The victory in these bypolls is a significant boost for the BJP in Tripura, as it solidifies their position in the state’s political landscape. The party’s success underscores its growing popularity among voters and the effectiveness of its election strategies.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his gratitude to the voters following the BJP’s victory in both the Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly constituencies. The chief minister acknowledged the voters’ trust in the BJP and their support in the bypolls.

The bypoll results were not without political commentary, as Pradyot Deb Barman, the chief of TIPRA Motha, raised questions about the opposition’s commitment to the people. He criticized the Congress and other opposition parties for not fielding their candidates, accusing them of backing out at the last moment and leaving their loyal workers to face the consequences.

The jubilation among BJP workers was palpable as they celebrated their party’s triumph in Boxanagar and Dhanpur. They also took the opportunity to mock the Congress, highlighting the BJP’s dominance in the bypolls.

The victory in both constituencies was not only a testament to the BJP’s popularity but also a reflection of the voters’ trust in the party’s leadership and its vision for the state. With these wins, the BJP has further solidified its position in Tripura, sending a strong message to the political opposition in the state.

As the political landscape continues to evolve in Tripura, these bypoll results will likely have a lasting impact on the state’s political dynamics. The BJP’s success in Boxanagar and Dhanpur is a significant milestone for the party and reaffirms its status as a dominant political force in the region.
