Rishi Sunak

New Delhi, Sept 08: The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, touched down in Delhi for the G20 Summit with a lively and colorful welcome. As he arrived, he was greeted with the captivating Bihu dance of Assam, a cultural treat that showcased India’s rich and diverse heritage.

Sunak’s arrival was made even more special as he was received by none other than Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

Before embarking on his journey to India, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak shared his clear focus for the G20 Summit. His priorities include stabilizing the global economy, strengthening international relationships, and supporting the most vulnerable in these challenging times.

In a social media post, Sunak expressed his objectives, stating, “I’m heading to the #G20 Summit with a clear focus. Stabilizing the global economy. Building international relationships. Supporting the most vulnerable. This action is part of that – Putin again has failed to show up for the G20, but we will show up with support for Ukraine.”

This statement underlines the global concerns surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the UK’s commitment to addressing these issues on the international stage.

The G20 Summit, set to be held in Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on September 9-10, is a critical event on the global diplomatic calendar. Leaders from around the world will convene to discuss pressing global challenges.

During the summit, Sunak will emphasize the importance of global leaders making it clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative has further isolated Russia on the global stage. The UK will also pledge support for those whose lives have been impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

One of the prominent challenges that will be discussed at the summit is the surge in the cost of living, which has been driven by Putin’s actions.

In a press release, the UK Prime Minister’s Office stated, “At the summit, the Prime Minister will stress the importance of those who do choose to attend demonstrating their leadership, both in helping the world’s most vulnerable people to deal with the terrible consequences of Putin’s war and in addressing wider challenges like climate change and the stability of the global economy.”

The release also highlighted Russia’s diplomatic isolation and the global consequences of Putin’s actions. It stated, “Once again, Vladimir Putin is failing to show his face at the G20. He is the architect of his own diplomatic exile, isolating himself in his presidential palace and blocking out criticism and reality.”

The release further emphasized the impact of Russia’s actions on a global scale, including the displacement of millions, the manipulation of energy prices, and its effect on households worldwide.

In response to these challenges, the UK plans to host an international food security summit later this year and increase support for those most affected by rising food prices. Additionally, the UK will contribute £3 million in funding for the World Food Programme to continue its vital work, especially under President Zelenskyy’s ‘Grain from Ukraine’ initiative.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s arrival in Delhi not only marks the start of the G20 Summit but also highlights the urgency of addressing global issues and fostering international cooperation during these challenging times.
