Imphal, Nov 17: The bodies of six individuals, including three women and three children, reportedly abducted from Manipur’s Jiribam district, were recovered near the Assam-Manipur border.

The Assam Rifles discovered the bodies and transported them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the valley districts of Manipur, with families of the victims demanding the immediate return of the bodies. Initial reports suggest the possibility of abduction by armed militants, raising further concerns about escalating violence in the region.

In a related development, the bodies of 10 suspected militants, killed during a November 11 gunfight with CRPF in the Jiribam district, were handed over to members of the Hmar community and protesting students on November 16.

These bodies will reportedly be transported to the Masimpur Military Base before being airlifted to Churachandpur, Manipur.

Meanwhile, tensions flared outside the Silchar Medical College and Hospital as members of the Hmar and Kuki communities clashed with police, demanding the prompt post-mortem and release of the bodies.

Authorities closely monitor the situation as concerns grow over potential unrest in the region.
