Imphal, Nov 16: The bodies of six individuals, including three women and three children, who were reportedly abducted from Manipur’s Jiribam district, were recovered near the Assam-Manipur border on November 16.

The Assam Rifles discovered the bodies and transported them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The grim discovery has sparked outrage across Manipur’s valley districts. Families of the victims have demanded the immediate return of the bodies, accusing armed militants of the abduction.

In a related development, the bodies of 10 suspected militants killed during a gunfight with CRPF in Jiribam district on November 11 were handed over to members of the Hmar community and protesting students on November 16.

According to sources, these bodies will first be taken to the Masimpur Military Base and are expected to be airlifted to Churachandpur in Manipur.

Tensions flared outside Silchar Medical College and Hospital when members of the Hmar and Kuki communities clashed with police. The groups demanded the transport of the militants’ bodies for post-mortem, further exacerbating the volatile situation in the region.

Authorities are closely monitoring the developments as concerns grow over the escalation of violence in the region.
