Moreh, Jan 08: Fresh firing has erupted in the border town of Moreh in Manipur, with armed militants launching an attack on security forces.

The forces, including the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, are retaliating, leading to a heavy gun battle. The armed militants are reportedly using bombs to target security force barracks, raising concerns about potential injuries in the ongoing clash.

Moreh has witnessed a series of firing incidents between security forces and armed militants. On January 2, gunmen targeted vehicles carrying police commandos with RPGs near Moreh.

Before this, firing incidents occurred on December 30 and January 1, resulting in injuries to five police personnel. In both instances, armed militants initiated attacks, leading to intense gun battles.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed suspicion regarding the involvement of foreign elements from the Myanmar side in these attacks.

He specifically mentioned the possibility of the Kuki National Army (KNA-B) being behind the incidents.

The situation remains tense as security forces continue to engage with the armed militants in Moreh.
