Kolkata, April 06: A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) encountered an attack in Bhupatinagar, East Midnapore district of West Bengal, on Saturday morning while investigating a blast case from 2022 at the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader.
Reports suggest that bricks were thrown at the NIA team’s car, damaging the windscreen, although there have been no reported injuries. The incident occurred around 5:30 am.
The blast on December 3, 2022, resulted in the destruction of a house with a thatched roof in Bhupatinagar, claiming three lives.
Last month, the NIA summoned eight Trinamool Congress leaders for questioning regarding the blast, leading to accusations from the TMC that the BJP was behind the NIA’s actions.
The eight leaders had been directed to appear before the NIA officers after failing to respond to a previous summons to visit the NIA office in New Town on March 28.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that the BJP had influenced the NIA, claiming that the agency had received a list of TMC leaders from the Purba Medinipur district from the BJP, with intentions to arrest them.
This incident comes just two months after an attack on a team of Enforcement Directorate officials who were conducting a raid at the residence of Shahjahan Sheikh, a suspended local TMC leader linked to arrested state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick.
The raid was in connection with a multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal. During the raid, the ED officials and accompanying CRPF personnel were attacked, resulting in three ED officers being hospitalized.
The mob reportedly attempted to prevent the ED officers from taking action, throwing stones at their vehicles. CRPF personnel had to resort to baton charging to control the situation.
