1. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh disclosed that 259 illegal migrants from Myanmar were repatriated between May 3, 2023, and March 4, 2024.
2. These individuals entered Manipur without valid documents, crossing through porous border districts like Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Ukhrul, and Churachandpur, due to Myanmar’s internal crisis.

Imphal, March 04: According to Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, a total of 259 illegal migrants from Myanmar have been repatriated to their country since May 3, 2023, up to Monday, March 4, 2024.
During a session in the state assembly, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh revealed that these individuals had entered Manipur without valid documents, crossing over through porous border districts like Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Ukhrul, and Churachandpur, due to the internal crisis in Myanmar. State and central security forces collaborated to deport them back to Myanmar.
Additionally, there are currently 6745 Myanmar nationals, including women and children, residing in various relief camps across districts bordering Myanmar.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who also serves as the state’s Home Minister, shared this information in response to questions raised during the assembly session.
In response to a supplementary question posed by Congress MLA Th Lokeshor Singh, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh informed the assembly about the collection of biometric data from these individuals at different relief camps.
He also mentioned that around 12 illegal Myanmar nationals who arrived in Manipur in recent years are currently sheltered in different relief camps.
The repatriation efforts signify the government’s commitment to border security and adherence to immigration laws, ensuring that individuals entering the state without proper documentation are dealt with according to legal protocols.
