Gangtok, March 03: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang gave away cheques to a total of fourteen thousand beneficiaries at Rangpo in Pakyong district in East Sikkim, under the Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Yojna; popularly framed as the Aama scheme on Friday.

The first phase of the scheme successfully covered fourteen thousand beneficiaries hailing from around 32 constituencies of Sikkim, which includes married women who are of 18 years of age and above, those who do not work outside the house, and whose family members do not hold any regular government jobs.

This socio-economic welfare-based scheme is the Aama scheme which was officially launched by the Chief Minister of Sikkim Sri P.S. Tamang who has played a major role in the current positive developments in the state and so has successfully done this time by nesting this initiative promoting the practice of saving money with the help of the Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana following which the government will establish a savings account in each mother’s name.

Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana (SASY) is a Welfare scheme that provides annual financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 which will come in two installments from the State Bank of Sikkim by the way of Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) to non-working, unmarried, widowed, divorced or separated mothers between the age of 18 to 59 years.

The eligibility criteria to avail of this scheme are as follows:

1) She must be married or a single mother.

2) She must be the holder of Sikkim Subject/COI/Residential Certificate/Valid Voter Card of any GPU.

3) She must be unemployed without any provision of pension from Sikkim/Central Govt agencies.

4) No one in her family must be in regular State Government/Central Govt/Public Undertakings/Bank or any other employment.

5) Neither she nor her spouse should be enlisted as Government Contractor, Suppliers under State Government/Central Government or any other agencies.

Sikkim Government has stood alongside the ones who had been searching for a breath of aid through the years and has proved its position by placing a secure hand of comfort on the shoulders of these Sikkimese mothers.

This scheme will not only ensure the sustainability of the mothers in society but also shall give a probable capability of changing the lives of their families, provided this necessary entitlement to the housemakers themselves, giving them an opportunity to utilize the fund towards supporting educational requirements of their children, immediate medical support in the family, starting businesses fueling further income, house renovations and a plethora of other opportunities that follow.
