Guwahati, Dec 19: As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the political landscape intensifies, with leaders expressing their concerns and opinions. Bhupen Kumar Borah, the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, has taken a strong stance, suggesting that India’s constitution is at risk if the BJP secures victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Borah criticized the saffron party, highlighting what he sees as a threat to the constitutional values of India. According to him, the upcoming election is not merely a political contest but a crucial effort to safeguard the integrity of India’s constitution.

Expressing his apprehensions, Borah stated, “In this election, if NDA somehow wins, we won’t be able to find India’s constitution.”

He accused the BJP of attempting to gain favor through financial assistance initiatives like Orunodoi, while simultaneously engaging in questionable practices such as selling concert tickets for exorbitant prices in Guwahati.

Borah emphasized that the BJP’s approach often revolves around creating divisions along religious lines, particularly between Hindus and Muslims.

Turning his attention to the socio-economic conditions in Assam, Borah claimed that 33% of the state’s population still lives below the poverty line.

According to him, the BJP’s political maneuvers lack a comprehensive model or agenda for uplifting the impoverished sections of the population.

Borah accused the BJP of engaging in political gamesmanship rather than addressing the genuine needs of the people. He asserted, “BJP does not have any model or agenda to uplift the people of the state who are living below the poverty line.”

Highlighting the dissatisfaction with the BJP’s performance, Borah mentioned the coming together of the opposition parties in Assam.

Alleging that the BJP failed to fulfill its promises made during elections, he announced a conference involving 15 political parties scheduled for December 27, 2023, at Chapar in Dhubri. The objective of this gathering is likely to strategize and address the concerns shared by the various opposition parties in the state.
