Bastille Day Parade

New Delhi, July 15: As Prime Minister Modi attended the Bastille Day Parade in France as the guest of honour, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government, stating that Rafale got PM Modi a ticket to the parade while Manipur burns and the European Parliament discusses India’s internal matter.

Despite these concerns, the Prime Minister maintained silence on both issues. During the parade, a 269-member Indian tri-services contingent participated, and three Rafale jets of the Indian Air Force joined the French jets in the flypast.

Memorable France Visit and Parade Experience

Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality during his visit to France. He described the experience of witnessing the Indian contingent’s pride of place in the parade as wonderful.

Sharing a photograph of the parade, he tweeted, “I am grateful to President @EmmanuelMacron and the French people for the exceptional warmth and hospitality. May India-France friendship continue to soar!”

Indian Navy’s Acquisition of Rafale-Marine Fighters

During PM Modi’s visit to France, an important announcement was made regarding the Indian Navy‘s acquisition of 26 Rafale-Marine fighters for the INS Vikrant carrier. This deal strengthens the defense capabilities of the Indian Navy and reflects the growing partnership between India and France in the field of defense.

European Parliament’s Resolution on Manipur Violence

Shortly before PM Modi’s visit, the European Parliament adopted a resolution urging the Indian government to take stronger measures to contain the violence in Manipur. India responded by criticizing the resolution, stating that it reflected a colonial mindset. The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, emphasized that interference in India’s internal affairs is unacceptable.

The Indian authorities, including the judiciary, are actively addressing the situation in Manipur to ensure peace, harmony, and law and order. Bagchi further suggested that the European Parliament focus on its internal issues rather than involving itself in matters pertaining to India.

India’s Response and Diplomatic Efforts

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra revealed that India had reached out to EU lawmakers prior to the resolution on Manipur, emphasizing that it is an internal matter for India to address. The government firmly believes that foreign interference in such affairs is unwarranted.

Political Commentary and BJP’s Response

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Rahul Gandhi’s tweet and questioned the timing of the European Parliament’s discussion on the Manipur issue, suggesting a connection with Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to London. The BJP alleged that Gandhi sought foreign intervention in India’s internal matters during his London visit.

They further highlighted the irony of a foreign power wanting to pass judgment on an issue that is internal to India, especially when the EU Parliament did not hold any debates or discussions on recent riots in France.

The complexities surrounding PM Modi’s visit to France and the subsequent developments raise questions regarding foreign interference, India’s internal affairs, and the political dynamics between different parties. As Manipur continues to face challenges, the focus remains on resolving internal issues and maintaining peace and harmony within the country.
