Srinagar, Jan 27: The rooftops of 120 shikaras on Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir transformed into a vibrant display of patriotism as they were adorned in the colors of the Indian flag, creating a breathtaking visual treat for the onlookers.

This artistic tribute was orchestrated by the Srinagar District Administration in celebration of the 75th Republic Day.

The shikaras, traditional wooden boats used for transportation and various purposes on Dal Lake and other water bodies in Srinagar, showcased the hues of saffron, white, and green, representing the national flag, complemented by the presence of the Ashoka Chakra in the middle.

The meticulous decoration turned the iconic Dal Lake into a canvas of national pride, capturing the essence of the Republic Day celebration.

To provide a captivating perspective of this spectacle, the district administration released a drone video, offering a bird’s-eye view of the colorful shikaras against the picturesque backdrop of Dal Lake.

The video served as a virtual tour for those who couldn’t witness the enchanting display in person.

Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha marked the 75th Republic Day by paying homage to the fallen heroes at the ‘Eternal Flame’ of the Balidan Stambh War Memorial in Jammu.

In a solemn ceremony, Sinha laid a wreath and received a ceremonial guard of honour from the ranks of the Tiger Division.

Taking to social media, Sinha expressed his gratitude and remembrance for the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice in safeguarding the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the motherland.

The Balidan Stambh, meaning ‘Tower of Sacrifice,’ stands as a poignant symbol commemorating the soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation in various battles and counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir since independence.

As the country’s tallest war memorial with a tower height of 60 meters, the Balidan Stambh was erected in 2009 at a cost of ₹12 crores, sprawling over 21 acres.

Adorned with a necklace of 52 memorial pillars bearing the names of 7512 bravehearts, the memorial also features murals of nine Param Veer Chakras and 27 Ashok Chakras on its inscription wall.

Every year on January 26, the Republic Day celebrations at Balidan Stambh serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes.
