Patana, Jan 27: Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has transferred over 100 officers, including 22 IAS, 79 IPS, and 45 Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officers.

This move comes amidst political uncertainty in the state and is seen as an effort to streamline administrative functions.

The changes include key positions such as district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs).

The decision reflects the government’s focus on optimizing administrative efficiency and responsiveness.

Among the notable changes, Patna DM Chandrasekhar Singh, involved in a recent dispute with the education department, has been appointed as a special secretary in the chief minister’s secretariat. Shirsat Kapil Ashok, the current IG (prisons) and a 2011-batch IAS officer, will take over as the new Patna DM.

The reshuffle also involves Naval Kishor Choudhary, the Gopalganj DM, who is set to become the new Bhagalpur DM, while Bhagalpur DM Subrat Kumar Sen has been appointed as the Muzaffarpur DM.

In the IPS cadre, 79 officers, including 17 SPs from various districts, have been reassigned. Key appointments include Sushil Mansingh Khopde, currently serving as ADG (operations), and Special Task Force (STF), who will now serve as ADG (prohibition).

Additionally, Amrit Raj, the current ADG (prohibition), has been appointed as ADG (operations).

The reshuffling extends to SP-level officers, such as Deepak Ranjan, SP Jehanabad, who has been transferred as commandant (Bihar Special Armed Police, Bodh Gaya), and SP Naugachia Sushant Kumar Saroj, who will take over as SP Bagaha.

In the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS), 45 officers have been given new postings, contributing to the comprehensive administrative restructuring.

This series of transfers and postings are described as routine exercises by a senior official from the General Administration Department (GAD).

The recent bureaucratic changes indicate the government’s commitment to optimizing administrative efficiency and ensuring effective governance in Bihar during a time of political flux.
