1. DC skipper Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 lakh, and suspended for a slow over-rate against RR.
2. Pant’s absence in the upcoming match vs RCB is crucial for DC’s IPL 2024 campaign.
3. Sanctions follow slow over-rate offence during the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals.
Sports, May 11: Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant has been penalized with a one-match suspension and a fine of INR 30 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024.
As a consequence of the suspension, Pant will be absent from the crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) scheduled on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
This absence poses a significant setback for DC, as they are still in contention in the Indian Premier League, and a loss could eliminate them from the tournament.
Following the ruling of the Match Referee, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the decision, which was subsequently referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review.
After a virtual hearing, the Ombudsman affirmed that the Match Referee’s decision stands as final and binding, as per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, as stated in the BCCI press release.
Pant has played a pivotal role in DC’s resurgence this season, leading the team admirably after a shaky start. Supported by players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jake Fraser-McGurk, DC has emerged as one of the most dynamic teams in the league, excelling in both batting and bowling.
Notably, Pant’s strategic leadership was evident in their game against Gujarat Titans (GT), where DC bowled out GT for a mere 89 runs, earning Pant the Player of the Match accolade.
