Gangtok, Jan 30: A destructive fire erupted at Singtam Mandi Bazar in Sikkim, resulting in substantial devastation.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Monday, as reported by local sources. Fortunately, there were no reported human casualties despite the extensive property damage.
The collaborative efforts of firefighters and residents played a crucial role in bringing the fire under control.

During the late-night fire, two wooden structures, a small pan shop, and several vegetable vendor stalls were consumed by the flames, according to ground reports.
Immediately after the incident, fire tenders from Singtam, Rangpo, Gangtok, and the Army were mobilized to extinguish the fire.
The Singtam Station House Officer (SHO), along with his team, the Nagar Panchayat President and team, and residents actively contributed to mitigating the situation.
Presently, field teams under the District Administration Gangtok are conducting a comprehensive assessment of the damages incurred.
The Chairman cum District Collector’s office, District Disaster Management Authority, Gangtok, will disburse ex-gratia payments to the victims following the established State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms.
This unfortunate incident marks the second major fire in Singtam within three years, with a similar occurrence in Lall Bazar in 2020. The community, still recovering from the trauma of the Teesta Flood in October, now faces renewed fear and anxiety due to this recent calamity.
The aftermath of the fire has been documented on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube, where users have shared images and videos of the incident.
