Guwahati, March 21: In preparation for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued transfer orders for non-cadre officers, including District Magistrates (DM) and Superintendents of Police (SP), in Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha, and West Bengal.

These key positions, usually held by officers from the Indian Administrative and Indian Police Service, are subject to transfer to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the electoral process, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

The decision to transfer several officers was made during a meeting chaired by the Commission, led by CEC Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.

Among the officers set for transfer are SPs from Chhota Udaipur and Ahmedabad Rural districts in Gujarat, and SSPs from Pathankot, Fazilka, Jalandhar Rural, and Malerkotla districts in Punjab.

Additionally, the DM of Dhenkanal and SPs of Deogarh and Cuttack Rural in Odisha, along with the DM of Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman, and Birbhum districts of West Bengal, are to be transferred.

Furthermore, SSP Bathinda in Punjab and SP Sonitpur in Assam are slated for transfer due to their familial ties with elected political representatives.

This preventive measure aims to eliminate potential biases or compromises in administration.
