1. The Election Commission (EC) revealed that nearly 97 crore (96.88 crore) Indians are eligible to vote in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
2. This figure includes over two crore young electors aged between 18 to 29 years, indicating a substantial addition to the voters’ list.
3. Compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, there has been a notable six per cent increase in registered voters, signifying heightened participation in the democratic process.


New Delhi, Feb 09: The Election Commission (EC) announced today that nearly 97 crore (96.88 crore) Indians are eligible to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

This includes over two crore young electors aged 18 to 29 years who have been added to the voters’ list. Compared to the last Lok Sabha polls held in 2019, there has been a six per cent increase in registered voters.

Described as the largest electorate in the world, the 96.88 crore registered voters reflect the diverse democratic landscape of India, according to the EC.

Furthermore, there has been a notable improvement in the gender ratio, increasing from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024, as reported by the poll panel.

The Commission highlighted its commitment to ensuring the integrity and health of the electoral roll, emphasizing transparency and disclosure in the revision process.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar elaborated on the meticulous tasks involved in the revision of electoral rolls during a press conference in Pune.

He emphasized the active participation of political parties at every stage of the process, underscoring the importance of collaboration in maintaining the democratic foundations of the electoral system.
