New Delhi, April 15: Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled to commence on April 19, the Election Commission has reported a significant seizure of Rs 4,650 crore by authorities under its supervision.

This amount surpasses the total seizures made during the 2019 parliamentary elections, marking a record high in pre-election confiscations.

The Election Commission disclosed that enforcement authorities have been actively seizing over Rs 100 crore daily since March 1 in anticipation of the Lok Sabha elections. This proactive approach underscores the Commission’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement, the poll body emphasized that the ongoing efforts represent the highest-ever seizures of inducements recorded in the 75-year history of Lok Sabha elections in India.

Flying squads, statistics surveillance teams, video viewing teams, and border checkposts have been tirelessly engaged in executing their duties to curb malpractices.

The Commission further stated its determination to prevent the movement and distribution of illicit items such as cash, liquor, freebies, drugs, and narcotics.

These measures aim to maintain a level playing field and ensure fair and transparent elections across the country.

With the Lok Sabha elections slated to be held in seven phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, the Election Commission remains vigilant in its efforts to safeguard the electoral process.

Results are anticipated to be announced on June 4, marking the culmination of this democratic exercise.
