Aizawl, Dec 02: Election Commission of India has made a significant decision to reschedule the date for counting in the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram. Initially set for December 3, 2023 (Sunday), the new date for counting has been revised to December 4, 2023 (Monday).

This adjustment comes in response to numerous representations received by the Commission from various quarters. These representations urged a change in the counting date from December 3, 2023, to another weekday. The grounds for this request were rooted in the special significance that Sunday holds for the people of Mizoram.

It’s worth noting that the Election Commission of India had earlier announced the schedule for the General Election to the Legislative Assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana through a press note dated October 9, 2023 (Press Note No. ECI/PN/57/2023). In that announcement, the counting date for all these elections was initially fixed on December 3, 2023 (Sunday).

The decision to reschedule the counting date demonstrates the Election Commission’s responsiveness to the unique considerations and sentiments of the people in Mizoram. This adjustment aims to ensure that the electoral process aligns with the preferences and cultural significance of the community.
