Shillong, July 01: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has launched the Prime Tourism Vehicle Scheme, aiming to enhance the travel experience in the state and promote tourism as a key sector. The scheme, introduced on June 30, focuses on providing high-quality mobility solutions to tour operators and individuals, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable tourism experience in Meghalaya.

As part of the initiative, 16 Innova Crysta vehicles have been rolled out, offering luxurious and comfortable transportation options for tourists exploring the picturesque landscapes of the state. The introduction of these luxury vehicles is expected to provide high-quality mobility solutions and enhance the overall experience of tourists visiting Meghalaya.

The Tourism Department received an overwhelming response to the scheme, with over 600 applicants vying for the opportunity. After careful consideration, 50 individuals and groups were shortlisted to participate in the program. In an effort to encourage participation, the government is offering a 50 percent subsidy under the scheme, including loan repayment assistance for the next two years.

The decision will be based on market demand, vehicle utility, and the response received from stakeholders. The government is even considering the possibility of increasing the number of vehicles to 500 within the next five years.
