Eastern Nagaland

1. Public Emergency declared in Eastern Nagaland over Frontier Nagaland delay.
2. Total shutdown protests Indian Government’s delayed action.
3. State and Central Government projects halted indefinitely.

Kohima, March 16: The announcement of a Public Emergency in Eastern Nagaland has sent shockwaves through the region, as a total shutdown has been declared to protest the delayed creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory by the Indian Government.

This move has led to a cessation of all ongoing State and Central Government-sponsored constructions until further notice.

The Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO) and other tribal bodies, along with various frontal organizations, have reiterated their stance on the Chenmoho resolution of February 23, 2024.

According to a separate circular issued by these bodies, they have taken a firm stand, stating that they will abstain from participating in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unless the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue is resolved before the announcement of the Election Model Code of Conduct.

This decision comes in response to assurances made by the Union Home Minister on December 7, 2023.

The organizations have issued a stern warning, asserting that the people of Eastern Nagaland will not bear responsibility for any repercussions stemming from the ongoing situation.

Additionally, they have made it clear that ENPO will not accept any assurances from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) if they are intended to be implemented after the forthcoming Parliamentary election process.

The declaration of a Public Emergency and the subsequent shutdown underscore the deep-seated frustration and dissatisfaction prevailing among the residents of Eastern Nagaland regarding the delay in resolving the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue.

This development also reflects the resolve of the local populace to hold the government accountable for its promises and commitments.

The impact of this shutdown extends beyond mere disruption of government works; it symbolizes a collective outcry for justice and resolution of longstanding grievances.

As tensions escalate and deadlines loom, it remains to be seen how the concerned authorities will respond to the demands of the people of Eastern Nagaland and whether a peaceful resolution to the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue can be achieved before further escalation of the situation.
