Sivasagar, Dec 22: In a very shocking incident in the Sivasagar district of Assam, where a family of three was arrested for the alleged murder of a young mother and the abduction of her 10-month-old baby girl.

The couple arrested in connection with the incident reportedly told the police that they wanted to hand over the baby to their daughter, who was childless. The third accused in the case is none other than the son of the couple.

Nitumoni Lukhrakon, a resident of the Rajbari tea estate in Sivasagar, was found dead in a drain. While strangulation marks on her neck confirmed, she was murdered. It is reported that her baby daughter was missing.

A day later to that, Nitumoni’s sister confirmed that she doubted one Hiramai Gogoi of Tengapukhuri in Charaideo district for the abduction and murder of her sister.

Acting on her complaint, the local police reportedly picked up Hiramai and her husband Basanta Gogoi from Simaluguri railway station, and when interrogated, the doubts of the victim’s sister were found valid.

As per the police, the family abducted Nitumoni and her child with the intention to send the baby to their daughter in Himachal Pradesh, stated in a report.

However, by the time the couple was arrested, their son had already boarded a train with the child.

Later, the couple’s son Vasanta was tracked down with the help of Jorhat police, and the infant was rescued, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sivasagar, Subrajyoti Borah informed the media.

The arrest of the trio was recorded on Wednesday. It is yet to be ascertained if Vasanta’s sibling had any role in the murder and abduction.
