Farmers reject a fresh proposal by Centre

Delhi, Dec 9: Farmers’ unions rejected a fresh draft proposal by the Centre on Wednesday and said that they would continue their struggle against the three contentious farm laws. The Central government has sent a fresh proposal to the protesting farmers for consideration.

After the talks with Union Home minister Amit Shah had failed to break the impasses on Tuesday.

The Centre’s three farm laws that were cleared by the Parliament in September, are at the heart of the protest which is going on from last 14th days.

The minimum support price for crops will stay, said the Centre in a written proposal to the protesting farmers today. The farmers’ groups received the proposal with amendments that the government intends to carry out.

The big meeting scheduled for today with Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar – the sixth since the protests started – was called off.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a meeting called by Home Minister Amit Shah failed as farmer leaders rejected the government’s offer to amend new farm laws, saying they would settle for nothing less than the scrapping of the legislations.
