New Delhi, Jan 19: Amidst the preparations for the Republic Day celebrations, flight operations at Delhi airport will face restrictions from January 19 to 26. The Delhi airport authorities announced that there will be a suspension of flight operations for 2 hours and 15 minutes daily between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm during this period.

The decision was conveyed through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), affecting both arrivals and departures. This move is part of the security measures implemented due to the Republic Day events.

Earlier reports had suggested the possibility of airspace restrictions at Delhi airport from January 19 to 25 and on January 26 and 29.

However, it was clarified that the restrictions would not impact the operations of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indian Army helicopters, as well as state-owned aircraft and helicopters carrying the Governor or Chief Ministers of a state.

India is gearing up to celebrate its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2024.

Given the significance of the occasion, security has been heightened in Delhi, anticipating the presence of several distinguished personalities, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who is slated to be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations.

In light of the security measures, Delhi Metro has also intensified its security protocols. Commencing immediately and lasting until January 27, enhanced security checks by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be conducted at metro stations.

Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid potential delays and queues, and cooperation with security personnel during checks is encouraged.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, security measures have been stepped up at Lucknow airport ahead of the ‘Pran Pratistha’ of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22.

Starting from January 20, visitor passes will not be available at the venue, and additional security personnel have been deployed. The CISF patrolling in the city has been increased to ensure a secure environment leading up to the significant event.
