Guwahati, April 06: Assam Police has taken stringent action against former Darrang SP Raj Mohan Ray APS, dismissing him from service as part of its zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice within the force.

The dismissal, effective from April 1st, 2024, also includes disqualification for future employment, as announced by Assam DGP on social media.

The move follows a grim incident in 2022 involving the murder of a minor domestic help in Dhula, Assam, which initially appeared as a case of suicide. However, subsequent investigations uncovered an attempt to cover up the crime.

The investigation, prompted by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directive, revealed the involvement of senior police officers, an executive magistrate, and doctors in misleading the probe to shield the accused, an SSB Jawan named Krishna Kamal Baruah.

The CID of Assam took over the case and arrested several individuals, including Raj Mohan Roy, the then Darrang SP, other police officials, an ASP, and a Sub-Inspector.

Additionally, an executive magistrate and three doctors from Mangaldai Civil Hospital were also apprehended.

These arrests underscore the state’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within its law enforcement agencies, ensuring justice prevails even in cases of internal misconduct.
