Itanagar, Feb 12: The investigation into illicit activities within the education department of Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh intensifies as the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) announces the arrest of four more individuals linked to illegal appointments.

This development brings the total number of arrests to eight, shedding light on the extent of the alleged malpractice.

The latest detainees, Lamaung Mossang (44), Chaipot Techai (52), Lomkam Rekhung (47), and Likkem Tangha (58), held significant positions within the district’s education offices, further emphasizing the severity of the situation.

Among those apprehended earlier was Tirap DDSE Igo Doye, adding weight to the ongoing investigation.

The arrests are the culmination of a probe into a series of irregularities spanning multiple years, with the SIC registering nine separate cases in response to reported anomalies.

Charges filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act underscore the gravity of the offenses.

Changlang district alone has witnessed over 78 questionable appointments, ranging from trained graduate teachers to administrative staff, between 2020 and 2022.

The revelation of such widespread misconduct has sent shockwaves through the education sector, casting a shadow over the department’s reputation and prompting scrutiny of oversight mechanisms.

In response, the education department took decisive action by terminating the services of 255 individuals implicated in the illegal appointments.

While this demonstrates a commitment to combatting corruption within its ranks, the fallout from the scandal is anticipated to necessitate systemic reforms and enhanced accountability measures within the department.
