Itanagar, April 23: Union Minister for Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw launched 254 4G mobile towers in Arunachal Pradesh, with the majority of them located in villages bordering China. The move is aimed at countering foreign telecom penetration and providing better connectivity to the people of the region.
Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu was also present at the launch ceremony.

The 254 towers will provide 4G coverage in 336 villages, including several areas that have remained unconnected since Independence. The service is expected to benefit over 70 thousand people.

The Union government had approved ₹2605 crore for providing connectivity to more than 3,721 villages in Arunachal Pradesh. Rijiju expressed concern over the thinning of the population due to the non-availability of basic infrastructure and said that facilities like drinking water, electricity, and roads are now reaching remote and border areas.
Arunachal Pradesh shares borders with China, Myanmar, and Bhutan, with the China border being 1,080 km long.
