Hectic preparations for Christmas celebrations underway in North East india

Guwahati, Dec 24: Despite the COVID-19 scare, hectic preparations are underway in North East India for the Christmas festivities.

In Guwahati, all the churches are decked up for the Christmas celebrations and the churches are adorned with lights.

The big festival of the Christian religion people was not celebrated for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Assam, the COVID-19 situation has been improving and we are so happy that we will be able to celebrate Christmas this year with exultation,” Robin Bora – a resident of Guwahati said.

Apart from Guwahati and other parts of Assam, preparations for Christmas celebrations are in full swing in Christian majority states Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram in North East India.

The people of the states are seen decorating Churches and streets for the celebrations and thronged to the markets for last-minute shopping.

On December 21, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had participated in a pre-Christmas programme along with opposition leaders in Shillong and singing the Christmas carol.

Conrad Sangma tweeted – “Was delighted to join Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Leader of Opposition & Hon’ble MLA in singing the #Christmas carol at the Pre Christmas Celebration joined by our colleagues. #Meghalaya sends its Christmas blessings to each of you.”
