Guwahati, March 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ignited speculation regarding the potential defection of Congress leader and APCC President Bhupen Borah to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to reporters on March 24, Sarma suggested that Borah’s move to the BJP is imminent, stating, “Ask me, when will Bhupen Borah join the BJP? He will join the BJP anytime. Since I am saying this, I have a reason for it. He will join soon.”

Asserting his insider knowledge, Sarma dismissed the credibility of statements made by Congress leaders, claiming that they often confide in him about their intentions. He remarked, “Leaders who speak to the press about anything, immediately call me and tell me everything. That I said all these… do not mind me.”

Adding fuel to the speculation, Sarma referred to Gaurav Gogoi’s background, emphasizing his royal lineage. This remark hinted at potential shifts in political allegiance within the state.

Switching gears to national politics, Sarma addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrests.

Amidst these political discussions, Sarma also enjoyed a moment of local hospitality at the residence of Asom Gana Parishad leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury in Bongaigaon.

Indulging in a meal, Sarma expressed his appreciation, stating, “I ate all the fish served to me.”
