Guwahati, March 24: The town of Kaliabor in Assam witnessed the commencement of a two-day celebration of the historic Hazari Bhauna, a significant cultural event deeply rooted in the region’s heritage.

The festivities unfolded amidst the melodious chants of ‘Harinam,’ resonating through the Shankar-Madhav coordination field at Kaliabor Hatbar.

Organized under the auspices of the Hatbar Hazari Committee, the festival commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of flags and vibrant cultural processions, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Satra community in Kaliabor.

Minister Keshab Mahanta, serving as the event chairman, inaugurated the religious ceremonies held at the Hatbar Mandir and its premises.

Throughout the two-day celebration, various communities from the region, including Uttar Kaliabor Hazari, Chatiyal Hazari, Hatbar Hazari, Eksharani Bhagavati Society, Sonari Gaon Hazari, Pashchim Kaliabor Hazari, Samanvita Youth Society, and Barbhagia Hazari, showcased their cultural prowess through captivating performances.

The program lineup featured a diverse array of presentations, each depicting different aspects of mythology and folklore.

These included ‘Jarasandha Vadh’ at Uttar Kaliabor Hazari, ‘Sukarna Raja’s Son Love’ at Chatiyal Hazari, ‘Ram Vijay’ at Hatbar Hazari, and ‘Sita Haran Bali Vadh’ at Kaliabor’s Eksharani Bhagavati Society.

As the festivities continued into the second evening, the performances delved deeper into the region’s cultural heritage, featuring presentations such as ‘Shringi Muni’s Curse’ at Sonari Gaon Hazari, ‘Pandavas’ Rajasuya Yagna’ at Pashchim Kaliabor Hazari, ‘Rukmini Haran’ by the Samanvita Youth, and ‘War Between Father and Son’ at Barbhagia Hazari.

The event, commemorating the 300-year-old historic Hazari Bhauna, served as a unifying force, bringing together the entire Kaliabor region in jubilation and celebration.

Minister Keshav Mohanty expressed his delight at the vibrant cultural display and religious fervor witnessed among the residents of Kaliabor during this festive occasion, underscoring the significance of preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage.
