Guwahati, March 19: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a sharp criticism of the Congress party, suggesting that voting for them would be futile as winning candidates would eventually defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking at a party workers’ meeting in the Karimganj district BJP office to launch his election campaign, Sarma asserted that candidates have little interest in remaining with the Congress and are eager to switch sides to the BJP.

He questioned the viability of voting for Congress when the likelihood of their candidates defecting to the BJP is high. Sarma emphasized that his ability to persuade almost all Congress candidates, except one, to join the BJP reflects positively on the party.
Sarma’s remarks imply a lack of confidence in the Congress party’s ability to retain its candidates, suggesting a broader trend of defection towards the BJP.
He likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the sun, symbolizing strength and leadership, with the BJP as the beneficiary of this radiance.
