Guwahati, June 09: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the people of Assam on June 8 for their enthusiastic participation in the recently held Lok Sabha general elections, which saw the highest voter turnout in the country.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Assam recorded an 81.56% voter turnout, the highest among all states.

On the microblogging site X, CM Himanta wrote, “In the recently concluded LS Elections, Assam has recorded the highest voting percentage amongst all states in the country with an 81.56 per cent turnout.”

He also expressed pride in the state’s enthusiasm for the democratic process. “It is a proud moment for us and I again thank the people of Assam for their enthusiastic participation in the festival of democracy.”

The chief minister shared a chart showing voter turnout percentages from other states. According to the data, only Lakshadweep, a union territory, had a higher turnout at 84.16%.

Following Assam, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh recorded turnouts of 80.93% and 80.66%, respectively. Bihar had the lowest voter turnout at 56.19%, followed by Mizoram at 56.87%, and Uttar Pradesh at 56.92%.
