Agartala, Oct 14: One individual has been apprehended by Tripura Police for possessing Yaba tablets valued at Rs 4.50 crore in Bagbassa, situated in the North district, which shares its borders with Assam and Mizoram.

North District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, revealed that acting upon a tip-off, officers from the Bagbassa police station, under the guidance of the Officer-in-Charge (OC), conducted a thorough search operation late on Friday night.

“During the operation, a 12-wheeler lorry, bearing the registration NL01L7106 and loaded with cement, was detained and checked. Police discovered a concealed compartment inside the truck, containing 90,000 Yaba tablets,” stated the SP.

The driver, identified as Debabrata Dey, was taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation.

The SP informed reporters that the contraband is valued at around Rs 4.50 crore, and proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
