The exchange of gunfire, which continued into the morning, primarily occurred in Ward No 8 as security forces engaged in patrolling activities.

The armed militants, positioned in Wards No 7 and 9, fiercely clashed with the security forces during the incident.

This episode follows a previous attack by militants on security force barracks in Moreh, involving the use of bombs. The skirmish, which persisted late into the night, experienced a brief pause before resuming in Ward No 8 the following morning.

Although sources suggest that the firing has ceased for the time being, intermittent reports indicate ongoing sporadic exchanges between the security forces and the militants.

Moreh has been grappling with a series of firing incidents, illustrating the heightened tensions between security forces and armed militants in the region.

Notably, on January 2, assailants targeted vehicles carrying police commandos with RPGs en route to Moreh from Myanmar. Before this, firing incidents occurred on December 30 and January 1, resulting in injuries to five police personnel.

In both instances, armed militants initiated attacks, leading to prolonged gun battles with the security forces.

Expressing concern over the situation, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh hinted at suspicions of foreign involvement, particularly from the Myanmar side, in these attacks.

He suggested the potential role of the Kuki National Army (KNA-B), emphasizing the need to address external factors contributing to the unrest in Moreh.

As the region grapples with this escalating conflict, the security landscape remains complex, requiring strategic measures to restore stability and safeguard the well-being of residents and security personnel.
