Gangtok, Jan 08: In a concerted effort to address the welfare of women and children in Sikkim, the BJP Sikkim Mahila Morcha, led by General Secretary Srijana Thapa Chettri, conducted a visit to the Women and Child Development Department under the Social Welfare, Government of Sikkim, located at Tadong.

During the visit, Morcha functionaries, including State Secretary Miss Devi Maya Baraily, Vice President Aruna Manger, Tara Subba, and Secretary Bobby Rai, expressed deep concerns regarding the observed shortcomings at various Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centres across the state.

To address these pressing issues, a memorandum outlining critical concerns was submitted to Secretary Nirmit Lepcha.

The memorandum highlighted deficiencies such as inadequate distribution of essential nutrients, delays in maternity allowance disbursement, and the distressing lack of proper toilet facilities and drinking water supply at ICDS Centres.

While recognizing the continuous efforts of the Central Government to provide necessary facilities for the welfare of women and children, the Morcha urged the Women and Child Development Department to take immediate action to rectify the identified shortcomings.

In a formal letter (Ref. No. 119/SK/BJP/2023-24) addressed to the Secretary of the Women & Child Development Department, General Secretary Srijana Chettri reiterated the concerns raised during the visit.

She emphasized the severe shortage of nutritional materials, the absence of proper water supply and sanitary toilets, delays in maternity allowance disbursement, and the insufficient supply of essential medicines at the grassroots level.

The Morcha called for proactive intervention to ensure that ICDS Centres receive a sufficient supply of nutritional materials, proper water supply, clean toilets, timely maternity allowances, and essential medicines.

They emphasized that addressing these concerns is pivotal for the overall well-being and safety of women and children in the state of Sikkim.

This initiative reflects the party’s commitment to advocating for the improvement of essential services and facilities that directly impact the lives of vulnerable populations in the region.
