Assam Indradhanush

Dibrugarh, Aug 07: Assam has taken a significant step towards ensuring the health and well-being of its young population by launching the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 (IMI 5.0) particular immunisation drive in Dibrugarh.

The purpose aims to reach out to partially vaccinated or dropout individuals, children up to the age of 5 years, and pregnant women providing them with crucial vaccines to safeguard their health. The campaign will be carried out in three rounds, with each game lasting six working days, culminating on October 14.

The primary objective of Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2023 is to target children who have missed essential vaccinations and pregnant women who need additional doses of vaccines. This ambitious initiative seeks to bridge the immunisation gaps and strengthen the overall healthcare system in the state.

In its fifth iteration, Intensified Mission Indradhanush builds upon the success of previous campaigns and further enhances immunisation coverage for preventable diseases. With a specific focus on Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccines, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV), and the recently introduced fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine (fIPV), the drive aims to safeguard children from potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Immunisation is an essential pillar of public health, as it helps prevent the spread of infectious diseases, protects vulnerable individuals, and contributes to the overall well-being of communities. By targeting the most susceptible groups, Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 demonstrates Assam’s commitment to ensuring holistic health for its citizens.

Routine immunisation is crucial for children’s healthy growth and development. By extending the campaign’s scope to reach out to partially vaccinated or dropout children, the authorities aim to address the barriers that hinder access to healthcare services. Through strategic planning and concerted efforts, this drive aims to bring essential vaccines to every eligible child in the target age group.

The inclusion of pregnant women in the campaign further highlights the government’s dedication to promoting maternal and child health. Vaccinating expectant mothers against preventable diseases not only safeguards their well-being but also provides protection to newborns during the critical early stages of life.

In addition to traditional vaccines, the campaign places particular emphasis on fIPV, a recently introduced fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine. This vaccine is administered in three doses and bolsters the nation’s efforts in achieving total polio eradication. By incorporating this vaccine into the immunisation drive, Assam takes proactive measures to prevent the resurgence of polio and protect its citizens from this debilitating disease.

The success of Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 relies on robust planning, efficient implementation, and community engagement. The health authorities must work closely with healthcare workers, local leaders, and grassroots organizations to ensure that every eligible individual is aware of the campaign’s importance and has access to vaccination facilities.

Public awareness and community mobilisation play a crucial role in encouraging participation in the immunisation drive. Informative campaigns, outreach programs, and door-to-door awareness initiatives are essential components of the campaign’s communication strategy.

Collaboration and support from all stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, government agencies, civil society, and citizens, are vital for the campaign’s success. By working together, the state of Assam can effectively address the existing gaps in immunisation coverage and create a healthier, more resilient society.

The launch of Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 represents a significant stride towards ensuring universal immunisation coverage in Assam. By reaching out to partially vaccinated or dropout individuals, young children, and pregnant women, the campaign aims to provide comprehensive protection against preventable diseases.

As the campaign unfolds over the course of three rounds, the state will witness the collective efforts of healthcare warriors committed to safeguarding the health and future of Assam’s population. Through Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0, Assam exemplifies its dedication to building a healthier, more secure future for its citizens and setting a benchmark for comprehensive immunisation programs nationwide.
