Mizoram Ammunition

Aizwal, Sept 13: A joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police in the general area of Tlangpuikawn in Siaha district has resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of ammunition. This operation was carried out based on specific intelligence, and it played a significant role in preventing potentially dangerous ammunition from reaching its destination.

According to an official press statement issued by the Assam Rifles in Aizawl, the joint operation was initiated following information from reliable sources regarding the movement of a large quantity of ammunition from Archung in Lawngtlai district to Lawngtlai. In response to this intel, the joint team established a checkpoint near Tlangpuikawn to intercept any suspicious vehicles.

At the checkpoint, the team inspected three two-wheelers and discovered a staggering 1800 rounds of AK-47 assault rifle ammunition in the possession of three individuals. Among those apprehended, two were Myanmar nationals, namely Bawi Thang Lian (33) and Khua Kham Thang (32), while the third individual, Lalrinnunga (41), was an Indian citizen.

The primary suspicion is that these seized ammunitions were intended for smuggling into Myanmar and potentially reaching insurgent groups operating in the Chin state, which shares a border with Mizoram. The operation’s success in preventing the illegal movement of such a large quantity of ammunition is a significant blow to these insurgent activities and a boost to regional security.

Following their apprehension and the seizure of ammunition, the arrested individuals and the recovered ammunition were handed over to the Siaha Police Station for further investigations. This operation serves as a testament to the proactive efforts of the security forces in the region to combat illegal activities and safeguard the peace and stability of the area.
