Guwahati, Feb 22: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has announced plans to conduct evictions from areas where individuals have settled in the Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserve (VGR).

The decision was made by KAAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang following extensive review meetings with council members, student bodies, and political representatives, aiming to address recent clashes over land disputes.

After a clash between two communities resulted in injuries and arrests, the KAAC resolved to issue eviction notices to all “illegal settlers” on VGR and PGR lands, starting Wednesday.

The council, which governs Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts, stated its commitment to comply with Supreme Court directives and develop standard operating procedures (SOP) for the eviction process.

The notice directs the Assistant Revenue Officer of Donika Revenue Circle to take necessary steps for evicting unauthorized occupants from PGR/VGR lands.
