Kolkata: Taxi driver saves woman from molestation, beaten by accused with an iron rod

Kolkata, March 13: A local taxi driver emerged as a hero after he rescued a 21-year-old woman from molestation by youth in the middle of the night in West Bengal capital Kolkata.

The incident took place on Mathurbabu Lane when the cab driver was waiting for a passenger. The driver has been identified as Prabhunath Shaw.

Shaw was assaulted by the youth with an iron rod but he continued to take on the accused until help arrived for the woman.

Kolkata Police have now arrested the accused identified as Suraj Kumar Bhuiya and charged for molestation and serious hurt under sections of IPC.

The woman came out of her house had hired a taxi. She was waiting for her friends to join her when the accused approached her. The accused who was said to be in an inebriated condition passed certain objectionable remarks to which the taxi driver objected. The accused did not stop and continued to make comments. Bhuiya even tried to touch the woman. The driver then came out of the vehicle and confronted him. The accused then started assaulting Shaw,” the report quoted aa police officer as saying.
