New Delhi, Jan 26: France has unveiled an ambitious plan to host 30,000 Indian students in its universities by 2030, according to President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron, who announced during his visit to India for the 75th Republic Day celebrations, emphasized the significance of strengthening academic ties between the two nations, referring to India as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The French president detailed the comprehensive initiative to achieve this goal. One key aspect is the “French for All, French for a Better Future” initiative, introducing new pathways to learn French in public schools.

Additionally, efforts will be made to expand the network of Alliances françaises, establishing new centers for French language education. International classes will also be created, enabling students who don’t speak French to enroll in French universities.

Macron emphasized the streamlining of the visa process for former Indian students who have previously studied in France, aiming to facilitate their return.

The announcement builds on the French government’s existing efforts to attract Indian students, including the “Campus France” program launched in 2018, providing information and support to Indian students interested in studying in France.

The initial target is to attract 20,000 Indian students by 2025, setting the stage for the larger goal of hosting 30,000 students by 2030.

Macron acknowledged the ambitious nature of the target but expressed determination to achieve it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Macron’s visit, expressing his delight at the French president’s two-day trip to India. Macron’s visit included a tour of Jaipur’s iconic sites and a roadshow with PM Modi.

The leaders engaged in bilateral talks to strengthen strategic cooperation in defense, security, trade, and clean energy.

The visit marks a significant step in furthering the collaborative relationship between France and India.
