Kolkata, Feb 15: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attributed the unrest in Sandeshkhali to the RSS, accusing the BJP of targeting a Trinamool leader.

She pledged strict action against those implicated in the incident, emphasizing her commitment to justice and accountability.

Addressing the state Assembly, Banerjee affirmed her administration’s resolve to investigate the Sandeshkhali situation thoroughly.

She assured that individuals involved in any wrongdoing would face consequences, particularly highlighting the BJP’s alleged targeting of Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh.

Asserting her stance against injustice, Banerjee mentioned the deployment of the state women’s commission and the formation of a police team dedicated to the Sandeshkhali case.

She disclosed that 17 individuals had already been apprehended in connection with the unrest.

Banerjee’s remarks followed a walkout by BJP MLAs from the assembly, demanding her statement on the Sandeshkhali issue.

Although she was not present during their protest, Banerjee reiterated her administration’s commitment to addressing the situation.

The Sandeshkhali unrest, marked by protests over alleged atrocities committed by ruling Trinamool leaders, has drawn significant attention.

The situation escalated further when six BJP MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition, were suspended for raising concerns about the issue in the House.

Protests in Sandeshkhali continued unabated, with women playing a prominent role in demanding justice and the arrest of Shajahan Sheikh and his associates.

Accusations against Sheikh and his aides include land encroachment and sexual harassment, with Sheikh currently evading authorities following an altercation during an Enforcement Directorate raid related to an alleged ration scam.
