Imphal, May 07: Following the destructive natural disaster in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh took decisive action, announcing the release of Rs 6.9 crore from the state disaster relief fund to aid affected areas.

Expressing concern over the extensive damage caused by the thunderstorm and hailstorm, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh revealed that an assessment conducted by the state government identified 15,425 severely impacted houses, along with reports of loss of life and livestock.

The magnitude of destruction, particularly from large hailstones, has been unprecedented, with one fatality attributed to lightning during the calamity.

To meet the immediate needs of affected families, the government has swiftly established 42 relief camps across impacted regions, with deputy commissioners tasked with assessing home damage and providing essential support.

Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur districts are among the hardest hit, with thousands of homes sustaining significant damage. Relief efforts have included the distribution of essential supplies such as CGI roofing sheets and food items to affected households.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also appealed to merchants selling CGI roofing sheets to refrain from price gouging, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stable prices to ensure accessibility for affected communities.
