Imphal, Jan 09: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the Congress’ ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra,’ expressing concerns about the critical law and order situation in the state.

The state government is yet to grant permission for the 6,500km yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi and scheduled to commence on January 14th from Imphal.

CM N Biren Singh stated that the decision to permit the rally is under active consideration, with reports from security agencies being reviewed. A definitive decision will be made after assessing these reports, emphasizing the need to prioritize peace over party politics.

The Bharat Nyay Yatra, a strategic move by the Congress party ahead of the national elections, will cover approximately 6,713 kilometers, passing through 14 states, and 85 districts, and engaging with 355 Lok Sabha constituencies.

It is expected to address various issues, including unemployment, inflation, the rich-poor divide, and farmer concerns, while promoting social justice.

The yatra, adopting a hybrid mode of travel, combines buses and short walks (padayatras) by Rahul Gandhi to connect with people personally. The slogan “Nyay Ka Haq Milne Tak” (“Until we get our right to justice”) underscores the pursuit of justice for all.

However, CM N Biren Singh’s concerns are rooted in the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur since May 2023, primarily involving conflicts between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo tribal communities.

The delicate law and order situation prompts a careful security review before permitting the yatra, balancing political expression with the need for stability in the state.
