Imphal, Jan 27: In an effort to protect the interests of indigenous people and permanent residents of Manipur, the State Government has implemented a stringent approval process for buying or selling land.

The Cabinet Sub Committee, headed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, now oversees the final approval for land transactions in the state.

This move aims to regulate land transactions and prevent any unauthorized deals that might compromise the rights of permanent residents.

The approval process involves obtaining consent from the Cabinet Sub Committee, which carefully evaluates each transaction to ensure compliance with the law.

The decision to enforce a thorough approval process is rooted in the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Act, passed in the state assembly last year.

According to this legislation, any person involved in buying or selling land in Manipur must seek approval from the government, with the base year for land records set at 1961.

While individuals are free to enter into agreements such as promissory notes or deeds for land transactions, the final registration and mutation require the scrutiny and approval of the Cabinet Sub Committee.
